The Library During Construction

While the new JTS Library is under construction, it continues to serve students, faculty, and the community in its “swing-space” on the seventh floor of Kripke Tower. During the quieter summer months, we upgraded our remote access, improved Library study spaces, and worked to enhance the overall experience in our temporary quarters. Crucially, the Library is not confined only to this space. In our remote, rare-book storage facility, we completed digitization of 78 manuscripts requested by the National Library of Israel. We began the work of processing major new archives (which includes material from Leonard Bernstein). And our cultural programming is stronger than ever. We have a full calendar of book talks this year, including presentations by faculty, alumni, and distinguished authors such as Nathan Englander and Nicole Krauss.

Our loan program for our rare materials continues to be very active, allowing us to share these treasures with people all over the world. Over the next year, we will loan materials to The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cloisters in New York, the Detroit Institute of the Arts, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, and the new National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah, in Ferrara, Italy, among other venues.
