Almost Done!

August 26, 2019

It is hard to believe that the summer is almost gone, and that Orientation Week has begun. Our students, faculty, and staff are returning to a transformed campus as the 21st Century Campus Project nears completion. As we have informed our List College students, we are awaiting the certificate of occupancy before being able to move them into our new residence hall. We anticipate that the move will take place in September. Until then, Goldsmith Hall will be their temporary home. A few days ago, List College Dean Amy Kalmanofsky and our director of residence life, Brad Moot, were able to tour the new residence hall. They were excited about the beautiful new rooms and common areas and the possibilities they create for enhancing the List College experience and creating a dynamic Jewish community on campus.

Construction on other community spaces—such as the library, the atrium, and seminar rooms—is almost complete. These will be exceptionally beautiful, welcoming, and functional spaces that will bring us together in new and exciting ways. In order to allow ample time to move the special collections and general collection back to campus, and organize the volumes appropriately, we have scheduled the opening of the new library for the beginning of the spring semester. In the meantime, the library on the seventh floor will remain open and staffed for all academic needs.

Later in the fall semester we will see the completion of the final parts of the new campus—the auditorium/performance space, the moadon, and the commercial kitchen. Until the kitchen is fully operational, we will continue to provide daily food service from a kosher kitchen off-campus. We will soon make an announcement about the new food service organization which will provide all of our kosher dining needs in the new facilities.

We are eagerly looking forward to the coming year and the opening of our new campus facilities. It will be an historic moment for JTS and the American Jewish community.
